Leannes Rescue

GDS has been trying to catch this girl for approx 18mths. Named Leanne, she is just so clever to have survived for so long. Finally the day came and with help we caught her. We took her to the vets and X-rayed her leg as she was limping and sadly there was a suspicion  of bone cancer. Later she was admitted to hospital for a bone biopsy. To cut a long story short we are delighted to tell you that the tumour was benign. She is now well and will travel to the Czech Republic to her new home on the 16th Dec!

This poor galgo had his microchip cut out..

He once had a name and an owner but his chip has been cut out and he is left to fend for himself with an injury all alone in the streets. The wound was dirty but luckily not infected. Jenny who kindly took time to pick him up and call us saved his life. He is now in safe hands with GDS!

For all our rescues please see http://www.galgosdelsol.es/

Mary, a beautiful podenca

We got a call about this podenca who was living rough in Murcia. A kind lady had been feeding her and giving water and love. It was Mel a GDS volunteer who drove out to find her and picked her up and brought her back to our vet. This beautiful girl had a microchip and her family were in tears when our vet rang to say that she had been found. She had been stolen over a year ago. They drove straight down to get her and by Mary's reaction she was happy to be reunited! Good job!

Can we rescue Zoe and her 5 pups?

The pressure was on. Zoe had not long given birth right in the middle of a field. The most loving protective mum she made a nest out of dead palm trees but they would not be safe where they were. For one week it was early morning to late nights trying to catch mum but we just couldnt get hold of her. We tried the trap, we used out patience but no luck. Zoe had built up trust with Gill one of our volunteers and would feed next to her. So whilst getting Zoe into position with Gill, Antonio darted her. We had her, finally!!!!!
ZOE IS NOW RESERVED FOR THE USA AND WILL LIVE WITH LUNA BELOW!

Luna, our one eyed podenca pup

Watch this space. Our Luna is heading off to the USA in January 2012. She will alongside Zoe,  a galga also rescued by GDS. Exciting times ahead for this young pup!

Three more leave for Belgium to go to new homes. Whoop whoop

Here we are again saying goodbye to 4 of our babies who are going to Belgium with Belgium rescue! Once again a big thank you to Belgium rescue for finding lovely homes for these beautiful galgos, to GIN UK for sponsoring Lobo, Juani and Brad and to Bev and Warren for fostering Dobby. GdS can pat themselves on the back also for the rescues of all 4 dogs! Good job!

LUCIA needs her forever home.

Lucia arrived at Galgos del Sol recently and we didn't expect to find what we did. Her back has a thick scar running from her shoulder blade down to the bottom of her back. There is also scars running width ways.
The vets opionion came down to two theories. The first she has been attacked with something jagged, like broken glass and is the victim of serious abuse or she has been hit by a car and dragged. At just 4/5 months old we are left wondering how she survived this.
Lucia is now safe but is now looking for her forever home. She has started her vaccines and will now begin with some rehab and confidence building in one of our podenco foster homes.

It was a close call for Dobbie...

This puppy was due to be put to sleep. It was Bev who spotted this poor boy looking so sad. Luckily we reserved him in time and he will arrive to us very soon. If he is good with cats and children he may already have a forever home in Belgium. Wish him luck.

Three lucky galgos leave for Belgium. Sept 2011

It was a very early start once again for GdS as we prepared Josh, Grace and Tina to leave for Belgium. Josephine once again flew over to pick our babies up along with another beautiful galga from Noah's Arc. All 3 were brave hearted, we really felt very proud indeed. Josh you will remember took us months to catch as he was so scared but at the airport this morning he was a star, enjoying all the cuddles and attention. Grace also found a member of staff to tickle her tummy whilst Tina settled for a chin rub by a kind lady who was devastated about the fact that all three had previously been abandoned. Another successful morning.
